What to do:
Wash your hand prior to contact on or near the area of your healing piercing!
Leave the piercing alone except for when you are cleaning it. It is not necessary or advisable to rotate or move the jewelry while healing…Except during cleaning.
Leave the starter jewelry in during the entire initial healing time. (This is assuming the initial jewelry is appropriate in terms of metal content, style, and size. Inappropriate jewelry should be diagnosed and changed out by a professional) those with bead rings or barbells (straight, bent, or horseshoe) can change the bead/ball portion at any time.
With threaded jewelry (barbells of any kind) check at least once a day with clean hands to make sure that both balls are secure. Both balls tighten to the right.
If you like your piercing leave the jewelry in at all times even and old, well healed piercing can shrink or close after having been there for years! This varies from person to person. Even though your ear lobe piercing may stay open without jewelry a body piercing may not. Contact you piercer if your jewelry must be temporarily removed (such as for a medical procedure_ there are options available for maintaining a piercing until jewelry can be reinserted.
Make sure your bedding is clean and changed frequently while you are healing. Especially if pets get onto your bed.
Wear clean comfortable breathable fabric clothing in the area of the piercing the less aggravation the better.
A multi-vitamin supplement containing zinc and vitamin c may help boost your body’s healing abilities. Take it with morning meals according to the package instructions. The healthier your lifestyle, the easier it will be for your piercing to heal.
Showering is safer than taking a bath, bath tubs tend to harbor bacteria. If bath tubs are your only option, clean your tub with a bleach product before bathing, and rinse the tub well before you fill it. Also, be sure to do a running water rinse on your piercing when you are done in the tub.
If you are curious, if your piercing is doing normal, or otherwise always feel comfortable calling your piercer to get advice or reassurance that is needed. If you have the opportunity to stop by to show us in person this is usually the best way for us to evaluate the situation.
